By now we all know that I’m a big fan of an adaptable recipe (I truuuly think I’m doing a disservice if I don’t encourage substitution and finding what works for you in a recipe). Recipes, in my opinion, should ultimately inspire and empower you to become a more confident cook/food whipper upper in your own right.
That being said, some recipes more than others are just MADE to be messed with. This is one of those- with a few foundational ingredients you can whizz this up with whatever you have in your pantry or to suit your nutritional needs.
Raw energy bites/balls are nothing new or fancy. I just want to present them to you specifically for the purpose of seed cycling. If you have yet to discover the wonders of this epic hormone balancing hack, click the link there to check out my post all about it.
To recap, it’s the practice of eating certain seeds at certain times of the month to support your hormone needs. I personally found this made a major difference, particularly when I was too overwhelmed to overhaul all of my eating habits to align with my cycle, and after a couple months of seed cycling I noticed a major difference in my symptoms (PMDD, heavy painful periods, headaches etc).
It can feel a bit difficult to incorporate the seeds every day if you aren’t used to it, especially as they need to be ground for optimal nutrient absorption. So aside from using in smoothies or dressings like my Green Goddess Dressing I love adding them into these little bites because not only do they serve up great nutritional benefits, but with dates, added cocoa and a few cheeky chocolate chips they often fill my little sweets/chocolate cravings throughout the day.
These are a great food prep item and can sit in the fridge for a good couple of weeks, or even out on the countertop for a week. Probably more, there really aren’t any perishable ingredients in them!
This is a hard recipe to mess up so long as you get the right consistency with your mixture- heres how I do it!
