yay! I eat Dal at least once a week. Highly recommend subbing in mung beans for red lentils, especially if you experience inflammation digesting red lentils. Mung beans are the most nutritionally complete lentil, especially great for vegans & veggies.

Aw hi Jaz! Thats a great sub- I don't eat mung beans often but I recently got a bag I've been meaning to use so I'll have to try that!

if pressure cooking lentils when done says to add to pot. Do I drain the lentils or dump in with water/lentils from pressure cooker.

good question! dump in all together with water- most likely they will have mushed together!

Any suggestions on what I could sub for the coconut milk? I’m allergic to coconut unfortunately.

you could either leave it out or sub for a cup of heavy cream if you want the benefit of fats!

Subscribed to Substack just for this recipe!!!

It’s gotten so cold in the mornings that I was looking for warm hearty breakfast meals that wouldn’t weigh me down and algorithm gods provided.

I made it today - sooo good. Haven't had dal bhat since my time in Nepal, it brought back so many memories. Ive been trying to incorporate more proteins while breastfeeding, and this is going to help a ton. Do you think itd be alright to freeze some of it?

Made this tonight! I have daal pretty often at my friends’ homes but I’ve never made it myself! Love!! ☺️

Does the color of the lentils matter? I have green not red. Should I wait for the red is there a nutritional difference?

Do you have a list of good foods to support each phase?

Grinding all the spices was so much fun. Also, I feel so powerful with the herbs! Thanks for sharing this healing recipe, Ebby.

If no pressure cooker, or instant pot, can I just cook the lentils on the hob?
